Gehry Technologies has named Dr. Malcolm Davies as Chief Operating Officer. An announcement is expected from the firm shortly.

The well-traveled Davies is best known as the former Senior Vice President of Autodesk. He left the firm in 1992 after being passed over for CEO in favor of Sun Microsystems executive Carol Bartz, who still holds the position. Since leaving Autodesk, he has held executive positions in corporate management and sales/marketing at a variety of CAD industry firms, including Rebis, CADKEY, and Nemetschek USA. He holds a Ph.D. in Architecture and Building Science from the University of Strathclyde in the UK.

Gehry Technologies is a spin-off jointly created and funded by the firm of famed architect Frank O. Gehry and Dassault Systemes, maker of CATIA manufacturing design software. The goal is to adapt and sell CATIA software for construction design. Gehry has become famous for signature projects that defy categorization, such as Guggenheim Museum Bilbao in Spain, the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, and the Experience Music Project museum in Seattle. All these projects, and others, were designed in CATIA with project information delivered to engineers and contractors in a paperless information flow.

In a recent meeting with the press, covered in AECnews, Gehry said, “With CATIA and with Dassault we have been able to delineate the parts of the buildings in such detail, to seven decimal points of accuracy, that the construction people are comfortable because their margin of error and misunderstanding is very small.”
