A one-day conference in London later this month will bring together several well-known architects and engineering to explore the changes coming to AEC with the rise of new digital tools and practices. The symposium is sponsored by Gehry Technologies, the new IT consulting division of famed architecture firm Gehry Partners.

“Architecture and Digital Integration” will be September 27, 2004 at the Royal Society of Arts Great Room. Attendance will be limited to 200; advance tickets (£80; US $142.15) are required.

James Glymph, FAIA, managing partner with Gehry Partners, will present the keynote. He will provide an in-depth look at some of the software technologies and 3D state-of-the-art processes for design development and construction documentation that Gehry Partners has used with success in recent years. Other speakers at the symposium include:

  • Mark Burry, Professor of Innovation (Spatial Information Architecture), RMIT University, Melbourne, Australia;
  • Hugh Whitehead, Specialist Modeling Group, Foster and Partners, London;
  • Marzio Perin, engineering manager, Permasteelisa, Los Angeles;
  • Bryan Lawson, faculty dean, architectural studies, University of Sheffield, UK

“The potential for digital technologies to address the challenges of building design and construction will be presented as case studies of a number of landmark projects,” notes a conference announcement.
