When Sage Software (formerly Best Software) first acquired Timberline, it looked like it would be a good deal for all involved. Timberline was becoming part of a larger organization, Sage was gaining a leading player in AEC back office software, and Timberline’s users were assured that Sage's “customer for life” policy would extend to them.

It seems to have worked out according to the script. Sage has not only kept Timberline as a separate division within the company, as promised, but has continued to find new ways to create synergy between Timberline and other Sage products. Today Sage Software announced the availability of a new integration of Sage Timberline Office Estimating for Sage MAS 90 ERP and Sage MAS 200 ERP construction customers. The interface enables current Sage MAS 90 and Sage MAS 200 customers to create construction project budgets using Sage Timberline Office Estimating and directly transfer that data into their Sage MAS 90 or Sage MAS 200 Job Cost module.

Sage says the new interface will allow existing users to realize “substantial benefit in time savings and error reduction by eliminating duplicate data entry when creating project budgets.” With a few mouse clicks, current Sage MAS 90 and Sage MAS 200 customers will be able to send a Sage Timberline Office estimate directly to their Job Cost module; jobs, cost codes, and cost types automatically synchronize between the two systems. From Job Cost, budget data flows to and from Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Purchase Order, Timecard, Payroll, General Ledger, and other Sage MAS 90 or Sage MAS 200 modules.

Sage bills the new link between programs as a natural extension of their “Customers for Life” initiative, which means not only that Sage offers continuing support for its products, but that businesses can easily move from one Sage application to the next as their needs grow.
