Virtual Builders Roundtable, an informal association of like-minded professionals who seek to improve construction project delivery and quality though virtual building processes, will meet in Washington, D.C. December 12. The group includes some of America’s most knowledgable virtual building practicioners and researchers, including Martin Fischer of Stanford University's Center for Integrated Facility Engineering; Daniel Gonzales of Rogers Quinn Construction; Andy Fuhrman, Open Standards Consortium for Real Estate; Atul Khanzode, DPR Construction; Chris Raftery, Lease Crusher Lewis Construction; Dean Reed, DPR Construction; Kathleen Liston, Autodesk; and Dianne Davis, AEC Infosystems.
The meeting is open to all interested industry professionals; pre-registration is required, and attendance is limited to space available. The workshop runs from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; attendance is free. The meeting will be at a federal office building in Washington; location and travel information will be provided to registrants. Due to security regulations, only those who are pre-registered in advance will be allowed to attend the meeting. To pre-register, visit http://www.virtualbuilders.org/VBRRgistration_Dec12.php3
Virtual Builders Roundtable includes designers, engineers, fabricators, and builders active in the development of virtual building processes and technologies to reduce the risks, costs, and time associated with today's construction environment. According to a statement from the VBR, “the mission of the group is to share knowledge among the members to improve the processes and technology to build virtually by creating 3D and 4D object models to simulate construction of all types of facilities. We also seek to educate the larger community of owners/operators/investors, designers, builders, suppliers, fabricators and specialty contractors about the benefits and implementation of virtual building.”
The VBR is independent of all other trade associations or industry events, but the timing of this meeting is fortunate for industry professionals. The meeting is one day before start of AEC Science and Technology Federal and EcoBuild Federal, Dec. 13-15 at the Washington Convention Center. If you can’t come to Washington for either event, AECnews.com will be covering both events, including “live blogging” from selected meetings (if we find WiFi connections).
