Hardware Takeover: Dell Buying Alienware?

This morning Internet technology news sources are discussing the non-denial denials from Alienware and Dell about a possible acquistion by Dell. This has the ring of the real deal, despite the fact that Dell seldom acquires companies.

Last week Alienware sent me a new workstation for review. It's a solid box, and we're putting it through the paces right now. But I wonder if, by the time I'm ready to write the review, if I'll be writing about an Alienware or a Dell.

There is a lot of stuff out on the web about Alienware's egregious customer service. It's not hard to find, but look at http://www.gripe2ed.com/scoop/story/2005/7/15/12648/1770 as a start.

It's one thing to get flaky customer service when you're buying a cheap computer. It's another thing entirely when you're buying very expensive machine, such as those sold by Alienware.
