Autodesk is discontinuing several 2005-class products from its Infrastructure Solutions Division (ISD) as of May 1, 2006, including Autodesk Civil 3D 2005 and Autodesk Land Desktop 2005. As reported elsewhere, the products are being discontinued because they use technology from Safe Software to support the use of Bentley MicroStation DGN files. Autodesk says it cannot renew the license after May 14, 2006.

You write: "The only way Autodesk could continue to use the DGNdirect code after the cutoff date would be if it became a member of the Open Design Alliance."

Why is that? Is that part of the license agreement between Safe and Autodesk? Between Safe and ODA?
