Today there are two interesting links regarding your humble editorial servant (that would be me) to which I direct your attention.
The first is an article at TenLinks.com entitled "David Cohn Leavs Cyon to Work for Autodesk VAR." The subtitle is, "Randall Newton to take over as editor-in-chief of CADCAMNet and Engineering Automation Report."
The second link is to the professional blog of New Zealand designer and blogger Robin Capper, one of the best-read bloggers in the Autodesk user community. His item is, "TeamDWF, spot the mistake." While I wince at the headline, it turns out not to be a mistake, but an issue of timing. But I digress.
The common link is that both items mention me. In mid-September I will be taking the editorial leadership of CCN and EAReport, and (along with a well-known colleague to be announced shortly), I am about to formally launch TeamDWF, a specialty portal devoted to the use of Autodesk's DWF publishing technology for AEC, GIS, and manufacturing. We put TeamDWF live to work out the final links before announcing it with a big splash, but you can't hide on the Web these days so the news is out. As I wrote recently, I believe the new publishing technologies coming from the CAD vendors and Adobe are as important an innovation as 3D, web integration or other new technologies reshaping AEC processes. TeamDWF will be an independent site for anyone who needs to learn more about DWF in particular.
These announcement do NOT mean changes at AECnews. I will not be leaving or slowing down the coverage. This publication continues to be the oldest news site in the industry specific to technology and innovation for AEC and GIS, as founded by the late Ed Forrest in 1978. I consider it a public trust to continue in the footsteps of Ed Forrest and subsequent editors (Carl Howk, David Weisberg, Jeff Rowe, David Cohn), and I am as excited as ever about the technology and the future.
