Leave it to Stefan Geens of Ogle Earth to get the scoop on this. It seems that Google Earth 4 includes a basic AppleScript library.

Such a feature opens the door for clever Macintosh users to write interesting applets. One such gem Geens writes about is "perhaps the simplest, most intuitive georeferencing application on any platform: Geotagger" by Craig Stanton.

Geens goes on to describe how Stanton created a way to add georeferncing to photos which can then be posted on web sites like Flickr or Panoramio.

If this interests you, Geens has more on his blog, including a list of supported AppleScript commands and other clever applets. "Apple users, your Google Earth API has arrived," writes Geens.
