AfterCAD Software (Vancouver, BC) announces the completion of a merger with OrbytSoft Communications. The merger gives AfterCAD new technology to pursue its vision of creating Web-based CAD tools that allow for a deeper integration of CAD data with other business information.

AfterCAD CEO Chris Boothroyd says the OrbytSoft merger gives AfterCAD crucial knowledge and patent IP in the fields of Semantic Web Technology and AJAX Portal creation. "Now we have the ability to create our true AJAX knowledge-portal turnkey solution, AfterCAD Enterprise. The application of Semantic Web technologies to the CAD industry and specifically to the areas of BIM and Manufacturing will change the very nature of functional CAD solutions.”

Boothroyd claims that Semantic Web technology will allow AfterCAD Software to capture the contextual and conceptual methods present in CAD and GIS and to successfully leverage these across how things are designed, built, sold and used.

AECnews first reported on AfterCAD and its AJAX-based browser for CAD files in May. At that time we said, "this company bears watching." And it still does.
