Tomorrow's release of Google SketchUp 6 will feature a new 2D page layout program that compares to elements of AutoCAD PaperSpace or Microsoft Office PowerPoint. The program, called LayOut, has been previewed occasionally as “code name Grizzly” to rave reviews from existing SketchUp users. LayOut is one of several new features added to Google SketchUp 6 being announced Tuesday at Macworld in San Francisco. Other new features include a new 3D text tool, the ability to create and save styles, export to Adobe PDF, and a Photo Match tool for working with photorealistic views in perspective that will be of special interest to those who create models for display in Google Earth.
In a related announcement, Google Earth 4 is now out of beta, and it features the ability to display a “best of” set of building models selected by Google from its 3D Warehouse. Existing Google Earth users need to download the latest version to gain this feature.
