If you needed more proof that 3D laser scanning is taking off as a engineering, design, and construction tool, here it is. Leica Geosystems is opening a sales and training office dedicated to the use of 3D laser scanning in Houston, Texas this summer. There is obviously enough demand in the oil patch (Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma) to justify such a dedicated site. It wouldn't surprise me to see Leica, or a competitor, open a similar office in New Jersey, to reach out to the pharma and oil/gas industry. The "Geomatics Center of Excellence" will offer sales, support, and service for the complete line of Leica Geosystems High Definition Scanning products.
