Graphisoft today introduces a free "BIM Experience Kit" designed to help architectural users of 2D CAD become familiar with working in a 3D building information modeling (BIM) environment. The kit guides the user through a project, modeling the Frank Lloyd Wright Massaro House using a full copy of ArchiCAD 11.
“Studies show that 2D users have two conflicting fears: they are afraid they will lose their competitiveness if they don’t adopt BIM, and they are also afraid that the BIM adoption is going to be too hard and they might fail. The BIM Experience Kit enables professionals to learn BIM at their own pace and get a high comfort level before making the production switch,” said Patrick Mays, AIA, Vice President, Graphisoft North America. Before coming to Graphisoft Mays led leading US architectural firm NBBJ through its transition to BIM.
The BIM Experience Kit includes a 30-day limited, fully functional version of ArchiCAD 11. Files may be saved for future sessions, and work done with the trial version can be converted for use with commercial versions of ArchiCAD. A two-hour overview of BIM based upon Frank Lloyd Wright' Massaro House is included in the download. The tutorial takes users through all major steps in creating a complete BIM project. Steps include designing in a model-based environment, generating floor plans, sections, elevations, interior elevations, renderings and quantity take-offs.
